Matilda Robey (7-4), born November 20, 1833, married Charles M. Fifer, son of John Fifer, March 7, 1850, and lived at Vermont in Howard County, Indiana. She died on the 21st day of November, 1880; her hus­band, on the 8th day of February, 1909. Children: (1) Mary Elizabeth; (2) William Riley, born February 15, 1857, died single March 18, 1886; and (3) Alice Mariah.

Mary Elizabeth Fifer (7-4-1), born January 25, 1853, married Eli Ogle, son of Elisha Ogle, March 13, 1890, and lives at Hendersonville, North Carolina. Her husband died on the 12th day of February, 1901. Their only child is Claude Monroe.

Claude Monroe Ogle (7-4-1-1), born September 22, 1891, married Thelma Mary Poorman, daughter of James Wesley Poorman, June 1, 1922, and lives at Hendersonville, North Carolina. No children.

Alice Mariah Fifer (7-4-3), born May 17, 1861, married Henry Almond Davis, son of William Davis, September 18, 1879. Her first husband died on the 20th day of April, 1900; and she afterwards, August 6, 1923, married Edgar E. Davis, son of Benjamin Davis, and lives at Alexandria, Indiana. Children: (1) Fred James; (2) Ward; (3) Beulah; and (4) Eva.

Fred James Davis (7-4-3-1), born April 11, 1880, married Stella Lamb, October 12, 1906, lives on Guilford Ave., Detroit, Michigan, and has no children.

Ward Davis (7-4-3-2), born November 15, 1883, married Lucille Talbot, daughter of Benjamin Talbot, May 12, 1912, and lives at Detroit, Michigan. His wife died on the 8th day of November, 1919. Children: (1) Robert; and (2) Jack.

Beulah Davis (7-4-3-3), born August 19, 1888, married Cecil M. Brown, son of John Brown, November 27, 1916, lives at 115 River Drive, Marion, Indiana, and has no children. Her husband died on the 23rd day of March, 1923.

Eva Davis (7-4-3-4), born March 25, 1891, married Dahl L. Stricler(Strickler), son of Samuel L. Stricler, August 31, 1913, lives at 115 River Drive, Marion, Indiana, and has one child, Jean Davis.

James A. Robey (7-5), born September 5, 1836, married Jane Davis, daughter of Jackson Davis, September 4, 1862, and lived at Greentown, Indiana. He died on the 17th day of September, 1868; his wife, on the 2nd day of December, 1920. Children: (1) Laura; (2) David, died young; and (3) Addie.

Laura Robey (7-5-1), born June 2, 1863, married Briggs Farrar, son of Charles Farrar, January 11, 1887, and lived at Macy, Indiana. She died on the 12th day of June, 1898. Her husband lives at Rochester, Indiana. Children: (1) Ross; and (2) Virgil.

Ross Farrar (7-5-1-1), born December 7, 1889, was married and lived in North Dakota. He and his wife are both deceased. No children.

Virgil Farrar (7-5-1-2), born December 4, 1891, married Edna Yates, daughter of Charles Yates, December 6, 1911. He and his wife are both

deceased. Children: (1) Evaline Jane; (2) Harold; (3) Armond; and (4) Robert.

Addie Robey (7-5-3), born May 17, 1865, married Robert C. O’Blenis, son of Abraham O’Blenis, December 26, 1886. He died on the 19th day of May, 1916; and she afterwards, October 20, 1918, married L. J. Oliver. They live at Argos, Indiana. Her only child, Georgia Mill O’Blenis, died in childhood.

Francis Marion Robey (7-7), born December 26, 1841, married Esther Carter, daughter of Noah Carter, February 15, 1866, and lived at Green-town, Indiana. He died on the 24th day of September, 1875; his wife, on the 14th day of November, 1918. Children: (1) Lucy Belle, died in childhood; (2) Zoe Etta; and (3) Oscar Henderson.

Zoe Etta Robey (7-7-2), born January 18, 1869, married Benjamin Franklin Broughman, son of John Broughman, and lives at 1324 Naomi St., Indianapolis, Indiana. Children: (1 and 2) Clifford C. and twin that died at birth; and (3) Ralph Gerald.

Clifford C. Broughman (7-7-2-1), born August 26, 1887, married Elizabeth Rink, daughter of Theodore Rink, September 18, 1912, and lived at Elwood, Indiana, till his death on the 16th day of March, 1922. His only child is Mary Carolyn.

Ralph Gerald Broughman (7-7-2-3), born August 17, 1904, lives in Indianapolis.

Oscar Henderson Robey (7-7-3), born February 8, 1873, married Margaret Heywood Hart, daughter of Harvey Hart, October 16, 1913, and lives at 1440 Naomi St., Indianapolis. No children.

David Henderson Robey (7-8), born March 24, 1844, married Cath­arine Learner, daughter of Barnhart Learner, December 24, 1869, and lived at Vermont, Indiana. He died on the 24th day of September, 1927; his wife, on the 1st day of March, 1879. His only child was Ellsworth Elmer.

Ellsworth Elmer Robey (7-8-1), born December 4, 1870, married Isabel Ross, daughter of Oliver M. Ross, June 20, 1899, and lives at Kokomo, Indiana, where he is principal of a ward school. Children: (1) David Lawrence; and (2) George Oliver.

8 MARY FLEMING was born on the 18th day of September, 1809. She married Andrew Fleming, son of Alexander Fleming, Sep­tember 18, 1828; and lived at Fairmont. She died on the 21st day of February, 1892; her husband, on the 6th day of May, 1885. Children: (1) Delilah; (2) Martha Jane; (3) Sarepta, died in childhood; (4) Eliza Ann; (5) Charles Andrew; (6) Mariah Malinda, born December 21, 1844, died single July 27, 1913; (7) Frederick Allison, died in childhood; and <8> Larned Bruce.

Delilah Fleming (8-1), born October 1, 1829, married Abel J. Sinnett, son of George Sinnett, April 2, 1852, and lived at Middletown, Indiana.

She died on the 17th day of July, 1860; her husband, in 1916. Children: (1) Malissa, died in infancy; and (2) Helen Olive.

Helen Olive Sinnett (8-1-2), born September 8, 1856, married Charlie Barnard, son of A. C. Barnard, June 5, 1879, and lives at Pennsboro, West Virginia. Children: (1) Archie Frederick: and (2) William Frank.

Archie Frederick Barnard (8-1-2-1). born May 8, 1885, married Cora B. Riddle, daughter of Eli Riddle, April 17, 1909, and lives at Pennsboro, West Virginia. His only child is Charles Frederick.

William Frank Barnard (8-1-2-2), born November 10, 1895, married Verdie Statler, daughter of F. F. Statler, March 20, 1915, lives at Pennsboro, West Virginia, and has no children.

Martha Jane Fleming (8-2), born July 29, 1831, married William Swearingen, March 24, 1852, and lived at Fairmont, West Virginia. She died on the 18th day of July, 1874; her husband, on the 2nd day of February, 1888. He was a soldier in Company F, 1st West Virginia Light Artillery, during the Civil War. Children: (1) Charles Andrew; and (2) Hattie L., born April 3, 1857, died single on the 21st day of January, 1882.

Charles Andrew Swearingen (8-2-1) married Laura Thompson, daughter of Leonidas Farlan Thompson, June 21, 1887, and lived at Parkersburg, West Virginia. He died on the 2nd day of November, 1923. His wife died in October, 1924. Children: (1) William Deane; (2) Mildred Fleming; (3) Donald Lee; (4) Alfred Graham; (5) Juliet Maude; (6) Elizabeth Latham; and (7) Charles Andrew, Jr.

William Deane Swearingen (8-2-1-1), born April 30, 1888, is single and lives at Clarksburg, West Virginia.

Mildred Fleming Swearingen (8-2-1-2), born June 5, 1891, married Lloyd S. Fleming, son of William Fleming, March 19, 1927, lives at Duncan, Oklahoma, and has no children.

Lorena Mosner, daughter of M. E. Mosner, December 4, 1918, lives in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and has no children.

Alfred Graham Swearingen (8-2-1-4) is married and lives in Charles­ton, West Virginia. His children are: (1) Ellen Carroll; (2) William Deane; and (3) Alfred Graham, Jr.

Juliet Maude Swearingen (8-2-1-5) married Blair Reed Kimes and lives in Belpre, Ohio. Her only child is Dorothy Lee.

Elizabeth Latham Swearingen (8-2-1-6) married J. Paul Bowers and lives in Parkersburg. No children.

Charles Andrew Swearingen (8-2-1-7) was single and was living in Parkersburg in 1931.

Eliza Ann Fleming (8-4), born March 6, 1839, married Jeremiah Ayers, November 29, 1853, and lived at Mechanicsburg, Indiana, till her death on the 13th of March, 1875. Children: (1) Leroy; (2) Edward; and (3) Mary.

Nothing is known as to these children.

Charles Andrew Fleming (8-5), born March 29, 1840, married Mary Frances Watson, daughter of James Watson, August 16, 1882, and lived at Oakville, Indiana. He enlisted in Captain Elwood’s Company, 8th Regiment of Indiana Volunteer Infantry, August 20, 1861, and served as a soldier in the Civil War until the llth day of December, 1861, when he was discharged at St. Louis by reason of disability. On the 24th day of February, 1864, he again entered the service as a corporal and served until the end of the war. During the following winter he was engaged in a number of battles in Tennessee, including Wilson’s Pike, Nashville, and Franklin. He was honorably discharged on the 28th day of August, 1865. He died on the 2nd day of April, 1901. His widow is still living (1931) at Oakville, Indiana. Children: (1) Alta Leota; and (2) Zella Marie.

Kern, son of James W. Kern, December 25, 1901, and lives at Oakville, Indiana. Children: (1) James Charles; (2) Ernest Leon; and (3) Gene Bernard.

Zella Marie Fleming (8-5-2), born October 2, 1893, married John K. Jeffers, son of Thomas H. Jeffers, February 18, 1910, and lives near Muncie, Indiana, on a rural route. Children: (1) Mary Katherine; (2) Dorothy Virginia; (3) John Kelly, Jr.; and (4) Teresa Mae, deceased.

Larned Bruce Fleming* (8-8), born at Fairmont, West Virginia, Octo­ber 8, 1848, grew to manhood in his native state and graduated from the Fairmont State Normal in 1875, being valedictorian of his class. He was always deeply interested in the cause of education. After his graduation he began to teach school and followed that profession for over twenty years in West Virginia and Indiana. On the 14th day of September, 1881, he married Laura McGrew, of Brandonville, daughter of Isaac McGrew. Soon after his marriage he went to Indiana and lived for five years at Cowan. After that he bought a farm at Poneto in Wells County and lived there until his death on the 18th day of June, 1927. His widow is still living (1931) at Poneto. Children: (1) Herbert Percy; (2) Mar­garet Grace; and (3) Edna May, died at age of 6.

Herbert Percy Fleming (8-8-1), born August 22, 1882, married Ethel Heaston, daughter of Jacob Heaston, October 9, 1907, and lives near Huntington, Indiana, on rural route No. 8. Children: (1) Heaston Meredith; (2) Evelyn Lenore; (3) Emma Virginia; (4) Esther lone; (5) Laurence Dale; and (6) Bertram Paul.

Margaret Grace Fleming (8-8-2), born March 8, 1888, married Ralph C. Lee, son of William A. Lee, November 27, 1912, and lives at Poneto, Indiana. Children: (1) Nina Virginia; (2) Keith Eugene; (3) Rosemary Ann; and (4) Roger Carroll.

3 JANE FLEMING was born on the 26th of April, 1812. She married Marcene Davis, son of Joseph Davis, on the 16th day of March, 1831, and lived near Fairmont, probably on the small tract of land he got from Alexander Fleming in 1840. He was a skilled cabinetmaker. A mahogany and cherry dropleaf table made for his wife Jane, and a rosewood chest, made for Laverna’s dower, are still objects of use and admiration in the home of Mrs. A. N. Taylor. At the time of the Civil War, when the people of this section were divided in their affiliations, many family quarrels no doubt occurred. Members of the Pride family say that Marcene Davis chased Henry Pride around his shop with a broad axe when Henry announced that he was going into the Con­federate Army.

Jane Davis died on the 31st of March, 1867. Shortly after her death Mr. Davis went to Indiana to visit relatives and there married Sarah Mann, a widow with three children, one of whom afterwards became

Bishop Austen Mann. They returned to live at Fairmont, where his last wife died about 1885. His death occurred on the 24th of June, 1896. Children: (1) Laverna Ellen; (2) Sarah Ann; (3) Louisa Adeline; (4) Elizabeth Emma; (5) George Addison; and (6) William Orpheus.

Laverna Ellen Davis (9-1), born July 18, 1832, married Henry Pride, son of William Pride, December 23, 1852, and lived for the most of the time at Fairmont. But they spent some time at Worthington, West Vir­ginia, at Charlottesville, Virginia, at Evanston, Illinois, and at Brooklyn, where she died on the 1st of June, 1914. At the beginning of the Civil War Henry Pride helped to raise a cavalry company for the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia and became a captain, serving till the end of the war. He died in Fairmont in 1882. Children: (1) Frances Ermina; (2) Charles Ernest; (3) Emma Viola; (4) Virginia Lee; (5) Nicola, died in childhood; and (6) Margaret Louise.

Frances Ermina Pride (9-1-1), born February 10, 1856, graduated from the Fairmont Normal and taught in the Fairmont schools. She married Thomas Nelson Parks, son of Eli Parks, who served in the Union Army. They were married on the 2nd of November, 1882. He practiced law in Middlebourne, West Virginia, in Chicago, and in New York. Mrs. Parks was president of the West Virginia W. C. T. U.; cor­responding secretary of the National W. C. T. U.; and president of the National Council of Women of the U. S. A. Mr. Parks died in Chicago, May 5, 1914. Mrs. Parks was still living in 1931 in Detroit. Children: (1) Emma Laura; and (2) William Shore (daughter).

Emma Laura Parks (9-1-1-1), born October 24, 1884, graduated from the Fairmont Normal and from the West Virginia University (1908). She married Ralph Banton Miller and was divorced in 1920. For several years she was a magazine editor in New York City. She married Arthur

Nelson Taylor, whose first wife was Louise Pride (9-1-6). They live at New Gate Road, Birmingham, Michigan. No children.

William Shore Parks (9-1-1-2), born January 12, 1889, graduated from the Fairmont Normal and attended Northwestern University and Chicago School of Art. She married Karel J. Sula, December 27, 1931, and has a commercial art studio in Chicago. They live at 142 E. Ontario St., Chicago.

Charles Ernest Pride (9-1-2), born August 2, 1858, married Nettie Johnson in 1895. He died in 1905; his wife, in 1898. Children: (1) Kath-erine Virginia; and (2) Nettie Johnson.

Katharine Virginia Pride (9-1-2-1), born February 6, 1897, married James E. Waddell and lives in Oakland, California. Children: (1) Ella Virginia; and (2) Sarah.

Nettie Johnson Pride (9-1-2-2), born April 1, 1898, graduated from the University of Southern California and is a social worker in Los Angeles.

Emma Viola Pride (9-1-3), born July 16, 1860, married William Shore, son of Albert Shore, November 29, 1888. He died in January, 1889. She lives with her niece, Nettie Johnson Pride, in Los Angeles.

Virginia Lee Pride (9-1-4), born near Charlottesville, Virginia, May 17, 1863, became a teacher and was at one time the highest paid woman in South Africa. She lives in Los Angeles.

Margaret Louise Pride (9-1-6), born October 20, 1870, at Fairmont, married Arthur Nelson Taylor, a lawyer of New York, June 3, 1896. She died on the 26th of September, 1927. Children: (1) Robert Nelson II; (2) Virginia Pride; and (3) Priscilla Carr.

Robert Nelson Taylor II (9-1-6-1), born April 21, 1897, enlisted in the United States Navy in April, 1917, and served in various capacities during the World War. He married Winifred Sayles, daughter of Dr. L. W. Sayles, lives in Westchester County, New York, and has one child, Robert Nelson III.

Virginia Pride Taylor (9-1-6-2), born June 25, 1902, married Harold E. Van Petten and lives in Akron, Ohio. Children: (1) Louise; and (2) Richard.

Priscilla Carr Taylor (9-1-6-3), born April 13, 1908, married Carl Thomas, December 24, 1928, lives near Alexandria, Virginia, and has one child, Arthur Taylor.

Sarah Ann Davis (9-2), born July 2, 1834, married Asa Smith, March 1, 1852, and lived near Muncie, Indiana. She died a few years after her marriage, leaving one daughter, Laura.

Laura Smith (9-2-1) came to Fairmont to stay with her grandfather after her mother’s death, but returned to Indiana and married a man named Cummins, a farmer of near Muncie. No further record.

Louisa Adeline Davis (9-3), born October 1, 1837, married George Martin, son of Jesse N. Martin, April 30, 1857, and lived in Kingwood, West Virginia. She died in 1920; her husband, in 1901. Children: (1) William H.; (2) Ida May; and (3) Flora Belle.

William H. Martin (9-3-1), born September 6, 1858, was married and lived for a time in Mannington. He is now deceased. Children: (1) Georgia; and (2) Grace.

Georgia Martin (9-3-1-1) married a Moore and lives in Mannington.

Grace Martin (9-3-1-2) is single and lives in Wilmington, Delaware.

Ida May Martin (9-3-2), born July 13, 1860, married Henry Clay Hyde, son of Jacob S. Hyde, October 30, 1889, and lived at Kingwood. She died on the 26th of May, 1903; her husband, on the 22nd of October, 1899. Children: (1) Harold Edward; and (2) Ruth Martin.

Harold Edward Hyde (9-3-2-1) married Mabel Graham, daughter of A. E. Graham, in 1915, and lived at Huntington, West Virginia, till his death in 1922. No children.

Ruth Martin Hyde (9-3-2-2), born March 31, 1893, married Fred L. Shinn, son of Joseph M. Shinn, October 20, 1913, and lives at Clarksburg. He has for several years been a member of the legislature. No children

Flora Belle Martin (9-3-3), born December 19, 1867, married William G. Brown, son of William G. Brown, July 9, 1902, and lived at Kingwood. He was for several years a congressman from West Virginia. She died on the first of September, 1912. Her husband died some years later. No children.

Elizabeth Emma Davis (9-4), born August 27, 1840, married John Scott Ritchie, son of Andrew F. Ritchie, April 10, 1862, and lived at Fairmont. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War, in Com­pany F, 12th W. Va. Vol. Infantry. She died on the 2nd of December, 1922; her husband, on the 6th of October, 1876. Children: (1) Ida Belle, died in infancy; (2) Carrie May, died in infancy; (3) Charles Marcene; (4) David Andrew; and (5) Jervaes Frank.

Charles Marcene Ritchie (9-4-3), born September 20, 1868, married A. Beulah Boyd, daughter of Judge George E. Boyd of Wheeling, June 3, 1893, and lives near Fairmont on Watson R. F. D. No, 1. His wife died on the 4th of October, 1939. His only child is Jean Boyd.

Jean Boyd Ritchie (9-4-3-1), born March 19, 1894, married H. Hillier Hoagland, son of John J. Hoagland, September 3, 1919, and lives in Erie, Pennsylvania. Children (1) Henry Boyd; and (2) Roger Ritchie.

David Andrew Ritchie (9-4-4), born July 16, 1871, married Jessie Sylvia Prickett, daughter of James O. Prickett, September 4, 1919, lives at Ulysses, Pennsylvania, and has no children.

Jervaes Frank Ritchie (9-4-5), born January 10, 1873, married Anna Wood Fleming, daughter of Thomas Marshall Fleming, August 16, 1898, and lived at Fairmont till his death on the 24th of February, 1929. Chil-

dren: (1) Robert Andrew; and (2) Louise Belle. (See 5-2 in Chapter XLIII.)

Robert Andrew Ritchie (9-4-5-1), born August 13, 1899, married Florence May Hutchinson, daughter of Melville L. Hutchinson, November 9, 1923, and lives in Fairmont.

Louise Belle Ritchie (9-4-5-2), born May 29, 1906, married Julian Stone Scott, son of Vernon Scott, June 6, 1931, and lives at Louisville, Kentucky. Children: (1) June; and (2) Robbie.

George Addison Davis (9-5), born February 17, 1843, married Adelia C. Knotts, daughter of Absalom Knotts, August 23, 1863, and lived near Fairmont. He died on the 1st of April, 1870. Children: (1) Kate; and (2) Orpheus.

William Orpheus Davis (9-6), born May 1, 1849, married Mary Jane Righter, daughter of Captain John Righter, and lived near Fairmont. He died in 1928; his wife, on the 26th of December, 1930. Children: (1) Delia A., died at 19; (2) Maggie A., died at 16; (3) Charles Righter; (4) Walter J.; (5) Martha; (6) Marcene; (7) Emma; <8> Sarah; and (9) Jessie.

Charles Righter Davis (9-6-3), born June 22, 1876, married Sarah Ella Bloom, daughter of Lewis W. Bloom, and lives near Monongah on R. F. D. No. 4. His wife died on the 19th of March, 1928. No children.

Walter J. Davis (9-6-4), born February 4, 1878, married Jessie Manley, daughter of George W. Manley, and lived at Baxter till his death in 1936. His wife died on the 30th of May, 1937. Their only child is Mildred.

Mildred Davis (9-6-4-1) married William O. Hite.

Martha Davis (9-6-5), born March 9, 1880, married Carl L. Wilson, son of John R. Wilson, December 22, 1899, and lives near Monongah on R. F. D. No. 4. Her only child is William Fay.

Marcene Davis (9-6-6), born August 1, 1882, married Willa Everson, daughter of Cassius Everson, June 30, 1906, and lives at Baxter. Chil­dren: (1) Mary Margaret; (2) Virginia; (3) William Fay; and (4) John.

Emma Davis (9-6-7), born June 25, 1884, married Jesse M. Tucker, November 8, 1901, and lives near Kingmont. Children: (1) Evaline; (2) Edna; (3) Velma; (4) Mary; (5) Glenn; (6) Charles; and (7) William.

Sarah Davis (9-6-8), born about 1889, married James E. Barnes, son of Samuel Barnes, November 27, 1909, and lived near Fairmont. She died on the 8th of January, 1937; her husband, on the 10th of March, 1925. Her only child was Doris Virginia.

Doris Virginia Barnes (9-6-8-1) married Edward Nuzum.

Jessie Davis (9-6-9), born December 17, 1897, married Walter F. Mor­gan, son of Thornton Fleming Morgan, April 26, 1913, and lives near Fairmont. No children.

ANDREW JACKSON FLEMING was born near Fairmont on the 11th of January, 1819. He married Mary E. Miller, Sep­tember 19, 1850. Like many others of the family, he made his home in Indiana, locating at Cowan, where he conducted a general store for many years and was trustee of his township from 1878 to 1880. He died several years ago. His wife died on the 23rd of February, 1909. No children.
