Conaway Lydia and John Hawkins Family Research Sheet

John Hawkins married three times – Lydia S. Conaway first, then widow Hannah (Veach) Hawkins, then Martha Minnear. This is the record of those families as gathered at this time.

Name: John L. HAWKINS
Father: John Hawkins b: 4 Oct 1796 in MD [or Bedford Co, Pa]
Mother: Anne [Anna] ______
Birth: 1832 in Fairmont, Marion Co, (W)VA [aBT 1833, vA][actually Middletown in Monongalia County at date of his birth, also have seen Farmington as bp]
Death: 1906
Notes: occupation laborer . Some have his full name as John Leisure Hawkins. I have seen John A & John L. in records but I have not seen a document supporting “Leisure” as the middle name. Doesn’t mean there isn’t one, I just haven’t seen it. Speculation: If his middle name is Leisure could his mother Anne’s maiden name be Leisure?? That would fit the naming tendency of adding a mother’s maiden name later as a means of identifying a particular person. I doubt he actually had a middle name given the time of his birth but it could have been appended by family later.

notes: I’ve seen John Wesley as James John, although I don’t know where they got that[Manley & Hall Family db]. Also have seen him as Henry Hawkins son with Hannah which can’t

be because Henry died in 1856 AND his grandfather John (Lydia’s father) left him land in his estate settlement as John W.
