Conaway John “Jack” – Brock Deed Marion County WV

John “Jack” Conaway is buying out his siblings shares in his father Jeremiah’s farm, leaving his mother Mary’s dower intact, which basically will give him full ownership at her death. In this other deed he buys his sister’s share.

John Conaway     deed

This deed made the 22nd day of May AD 1865 between Simeon Brock & Susan his wife of Monongalia County WVa, grantors and John Conaway of Marion County WVa grantee Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the grantors have this day bargained and sold unto the said grantee all their undivided interest in and to a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being on Rush Run in Pawpaw Township Marion County WVa adjoining lands of grantee & James Wallace & others The said undivided interest being one seventh of the farm belonging to the estate of Jeremiah Conaway decd. Said farm total contains one hundred and sixty three acres be the same more or less the grantors hereby covenant with the grantee in general warranty to defend the title to the above described one seventh of the aforesaid farm except as against Mary Conaway widow of Jeremiah Conaway decd who still retains her dower right in the above described farm in witness whereof the grantors have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written. (abridged) John Shriver, Justice of the Peace, examined the grantors each and certified the deed on 22 May 1865.

(abridged) On 14 Dec 1865, Thomas Maulsby recorded the deed as Recorder for Marion County in Book 15, page 92.
