Attendant Latitudes of Light

Attendant Latitudes of Light

Attendant latitudes of light, midwifed
By atomic half lives a continent away
Spear this meridian, purpled rays
Splash light from grass to trees to mist
And colour the morning flight of birds:
Radioactive chimes from Greenwhich
Knell the birth of day and split time
Into wavelengths marked by ions
That die, like the men that measure them,
Again and again without end,
And to the universe it is all the same.
